In May of 2008, I was driving to the gym when I began to think about what a shame it was that I didn't ever use my iPod. The problem was that the arm band, similar to the wrist band, was such a pain to use that I didn't even bother bringing it.

And worse, the headphone cable was always whipping around and distracting me (I tried fishing it up through the shirt sleeve but as soon as the sweat started that became an even worse distraction). Then it hit me. Why not make a chest strap and shoulder harness with loops to hold the headphone cable and direct it around and up my back? So was born the idea for The Pod Strap.

I immediately met with a patent attorney and began all of the work that goes into creating and selling a piece of athletic apparel.

One major concern was manufacturing. I spent a lot of time trying to find a seamstress before I finally remembered that a friend of mine was an awesome seamstress who had worked for a major sporting goods manufacturer here in Missoula before they decided to move those functions to China. This is where a major decision had to be made. I could easily have the piece manufactured in China and increase my profits, or I could build a company around a quality hand-crafted product right here. To me, the decision was easy not only because I knew I could find other former crafters from that major sporting goods company, but because Missoula, "The Last Best Place" where "A River Runs Through It" is the perfect place for this kind of lifestyle product.

And that's how we got started.

Now, to tell you a little bit about where this company is headed...

I used to be very active in the running scene, skiing, and the outdoor life - I even published an online-only magazine called Big Sky Health and Recreation while I was in Journalism school at The University of Montana. For a few years now, I've gotten off that path, well that's going to change.

This web site will serve as more than just a sales point for The Pod Strap products, it's going to be a source of support for people who want to live the lifestyle that comes along with it.
